Lead Instructor, Web Development

What We’re Looking For:

As a Full-Time 2U Instructor, you will deliver our course curriculum, facilitate learning, lead a team of educational support staff, and create the conditions for an outstanding student. You are an industry professional who combines deep applied experience with a passion for sharing knowledge and positively impacting students’ lives. In this role, you will identify, develop, and implement improvements to our current offerings and curriculum. You are able to differentiate based on student needs, effectively deliver content while also creating and maintaining a productive learning environment for instructors and Teaching Assistants.  You will also assist with the development of our part-time faculty in your market.

A successful candidate will have a growth mindset, technical expertise, industry knowledge, and an ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and concise way. This role has both teaching assignments and organization-wide responsibilities.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Instruction and Pedagogical Duties, including, but not limited to: Preparing and leading class sessions, sharing real-world industry experience, monitoring student concerns and inquiries, analyzing weekly student data and differentiating instruction based on student needs, and supervising Teaching Assistants (TAs) assigned to the course section.
  • Instructional Staff Tracks and Organization-wide Collaboration, including but not limited to: Participating in one instructional staff track per cohort and one instructional staff track in between cohorts, and partner with relevant stakeholders and team members across the organization to ensure successful student outcomes including but not limited to: Curriculum, Learning and Development, Marketing, Technology, Centralized Support, Data Analysis, and/or Career Services.
  • Market and Organizational Expectations, including but not limited to: Being knowledgeable of and compliant with all 2U policies, participating in market events such as Demo Day, Admissions Events, and Tech Talks, providing administrative support for Student Success Manager (SSM) in market, and participating in bi-weekly regional Full-Time Instruction Calls
  • Lead & Support Part-time Educational Staff, Including but not limited to: Manage the day to day performance of PT Instructional team members including, pedagogical performance, time, attendance, compensation, and development.

Things That Should Be In Your Background:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required 
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in Web Development
  • Version control (Git, Github) and deployment servers such as Heroku
  • Proficiency in:
    • General - Git, MVC, Object-Oriented Programming
    • Browser-Based Technologies - HTML/CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, Responsive Design, Bootstrap, and React.js
    • Server-Side Development - User Authentication, Progressive Web Applications (PWAs),and MERN Stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js), ORM, Template Engines (Handlebars.js)
    • Databases - MySQL and MongoDB
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills – effective in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings
  • Agility and willingness to adapt to change, shift course, alter approaches, and assume new responsibilities

Logistics:

  • The schedule for this role varies based on market needs; however, there are breaks throughout the work day. 
  • Attend all class sessions and be available during scheduled Office Hours.
  • On average four, 12-week class cohorts in a year; however, there may be part-time cohorts assigned based on market needs. Full-Time class sessions meet five times per week for 12 weeks (22.5 hours/week of instruction). Ability to work evening hours may be required for substituting, part-time cohorts, or peer mentoring).
  • Office Hours are held before and after every class session (45-minutes before and 30-minutes after).

The anticipated base salary range for this role is ($80,000 -$90,000), with potential bonus eligibility (if the bonus eligibility is applicable). Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, budget for the position and cost of labor in the market in which the candidate will be hired.
