Alexis Maybank has dedicated her career to building innovative and compelling online experiences that connect consumers to their passions and hobbies. A serial entrepreneur who has founded four businesses, disrupted major industries, and scaled ideas from conception to significance, she has devoted over 20 years to leading some of the Internet’s most recognized e-commerce businesses and iconic brands, including giants like AOL and eBay.
In 2007, Maybank founded Gilt Groupe and revolutionized the landscape of luxury e-commerce and the way millions of people shop online. As founding CEO, she built and scaled the Gilt team, the website and user experience, customer acquisition and viral growth, brand recognition, and the company’s distribution strategy. She oversaw all aspects of the company’s development from idea to millions of members, and steered it through one of the fastest periods of hypergrowth in startup history. By 2014, Gilt Groupe served more than 9 million consumers. In 2016, Gilt was acquired by Hudson’s Bay Corp., the parent company of Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord and Taylor.
Maybank holds a B.S. and M.B.A. from Harvard University and is a passionate environmentalist and champion for female entrepreneurs. She is chair of the Girls Who Code Board of Directors and on the board of directors for Zero Mass Water. Maybank was named to Crain's "40 Under 40" and chosen as Ernst and Young's New York Entrepreneur of the Year as well as being a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute. She also wrote a New York Times–bestselling book with Gilt Groupe Co-Founder Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, By Invitation Only: How We Built Gilt and Changed the Way Millions Shop.
